Now from the SCREAMIN KNEWS DESK: LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page went to Buckingham Palace on Wednesday to receive an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, from Queen Elizabeth II - but the award was for his work with poor Brazilian children rather than his music. Guitar legend Carlos Santana revealed during a recent interview with an Australian newspaper that METALLICA axeman Kirk Hammett has recorded a guest appearance on Santana's next CD, which is scheduled to be an instrumental. "It will be called 'Shapeshifter' and it will be out about six months after this one," Santana said, referring to his current album, "All That I Am", which features Hammett on the track "Trinity". "There are no singers. No singers at all. I might get Eddie Kramer to remix it. Maybe he might help me with a couple of songs." According to a posting on the AC/DC fan site AC/DC Ruff Stuff, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson and bassist Cliff Williams "rocked the house and sounded incredible" at Thursday night's (Dec. 15) hurricane relief concert in Ft. Myers, Florida. They apparently closed the show with the AC/DC classics "Back in Black", "T.N.T.", "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Highway to Hell", with everyone joining in. Other artists that performed at the concert included Joe Lynn Turner (RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE), Buck Dharma (BLUE ÖYSTER CULT) and Robin Zander (CHEAP TRICK). The event raised funds for the Beasley Disaster Relief Fund and the John Entwistle Foundation. Ronnie James Dio's (DIO, ex-RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH) official web site has been updated with a short statement from the singer regarding his guest appearance on QUEENSRŸCHE's sequel to their platinum 1988 concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime", entitled "Operation: Mindcrime II". As previously reported, Dio has been tapped to play the role of "Dr. X" on the CD, which is scheduled for release on March 14, 2006 via Rhino Entertainment. Ronnie recently headed up to the Bay Area to record his part on the record, and commented on being chosen to play Dr. X: "I was flattered to be asked to be part of the 'Operation Mindcrime II' project, and it was truly great to work with Geoff Tate [QUEENSRŸCHE singer] again." On Wednesday, December 14, original KISS drummer Peter Criss attended the sixth annual Children's Christmas Parade in Union City, New Jersey. "I had a great time at this event," Criss said. "It was terrific to hang out with heroes like firemen and the police, not to mention all the fans that came out for the event.". Criss is currently putting the finishing touches on a new solo CD, which he hopes to release early next year. "This is the first time I've ever done it all, writing, arranging, singing, playing, editing, mixing and producing," Criss had previously said about the upcoming effort. "I feel this is the best work I've ever done. I've never worked so hard on a record. It's about life, love, and ups and downs. Real Peter Criss!" QUIET RIOT vocalist Kevin DuBrow and drummer Frankie Banali are pleased to announce the group's line-up for 2006. Joining the group on guitar is axe slinger Tracii Guns, formerly of L.A. GUNS and BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION. A new bass player will be announced shortly. The newly revamped QUIET RIOT will enter the studio in January to record new songs for their next studio release, the first new material from the band since the release of "Guilty Pleasures" in 2001. Look for QUIET RIOT on tour in 2006.
